Dontaku

Konichiwa! Yes. It's time for Japanese...AGAIN! I've always passed by this shop: Dontaku @ One Utama but never once step foot in it (because all the pictures posted outside their restaurant are donburi and udon...not REALLY a fan since i'm into more raw stuff). Anyways, we gave it a try (twice)!

So we ordered the 'Share Menu for 2 pax' that costed RM68++ which includes:
1) 2 Rice/Udon (did not take a picture of it. But i love the idea that you can choose udon too!)
2) 2 Ice Honey Ocha (yummy)/Ice Lemon Tea
3) Hokkai Nabe
4) Crispy Kani Salad
5) Kinko Geso Butter Foilyaki
6) Salmon Negiri & Salmon Flake Mayo Maki
7) Santen Carpaccio
8) Potato Salad Tempura
9) Tontama

Ice Honey Ocha
#seriously yummy. must order!

Hokkai Nabe
#pretty delicious with all the different kinds of seafood. The soup....kind of sweet though. Looked ALMOST the same as what it was shown on the menu (80.88%???)

Crispy Kani Salad
#this was QUITE pathetic. Small tiny bowl. Barely tasted any crab in it!

Kiniko Geso Butter Foilyaki
#YUMMY. Quite a number of baby octopus in it! Super delicious...

Salmon Negiri & Salmon Flake Mayo Maki
#Just the normal negiri. Nothing really special though. I think Dontaku serves better donburi/udon/ramen sets than these negiri. I don't think they even sell negiri (i think)

Santen Carpaccio
#This one was NOT as good as the one served at Watami with the set. Watami serves onions and all some other sauces with it that compliments the thin slices of salmon and tuna (Y)(Y)(Y)

Potato Salad Tempura
#This dish came the last. We were all like (??????) What was it. Looked pathetic, but tasted good!

Tontama
#Wrapped egg with a stick? LOL idk, but it looks....okay. tasted...okay as well! haha

Takoyaki
#NOT included with the set. Just something extra we ordered. Really tiny ones. I think i'd go for the ones sold in Pasar Malam (night market) = size and quantity and price matters for this dish LOL

The second time we visited:

Yee Sang (RM32++)
#loved their sauces and ingredients. super yums. They had jelly fish, scallops, salmons, veges and some nuts that really blend well together. Portion&Price: Great (compared to Sushi King)

Salmon Teriyaki Set (RM22)
#Salmon was quite boneless. I think the price is pretty decent. However, their chawanmushi wasn't that great. It wasn't smooth and was pretty salty. eek.

Saba Shioyaki Set (RM22)
#These sets come almost with the same side dishes. Saba tasted tooooo fishy. Didn't really taste fresh to me.

Salmon Sashimi Set (RM22)
#Among all the sets...This one was the MOST worth it one. Rice was different compared to the rest (maybe because this one was just raw salmon pieces-5pcs only). But it was SUPER THICK and yummy and juicy (Y)

Tempura Udon (RM12.80)
#Quite big portion for the price. However, I still don't really get why would they put the crispy tasty tempura prawns into the hot boiling soup and make it super soggy. Not sure if it's a culture... But... It definitely ruined the crispiness for sure.

Overall, 8.9/10
Would definitely go here if you're bored with the other Japanese restaurants in One Utama. I think their prices are quite reasonable. Service was quite bad the second time we visited; super slow- maybe it's because they had a lot of customers? The restaurant is pretty spacious, fits a lot of customers. Air conditioning ain't that great either.
Wouldn't recommend this place for a first date. HHAHAAH

Stay tuned for more juicier reviews ;)

xx
